European success in CBI and CIT tournaments

Ahead of the NCAA Tournament Final Four, champions were crowned in the NIT, CIT and CBI Tournaments.

The third game of the best-of-three series between South Florida and DePaul was played on Friday at Chicago. The visitors grabbed a 77-65 win to secure the CBI title. French sophomore forward Alexis Yetna notched eight points and six rebounds, also tallied two dimes, one steal and one block for the Bulls and Croatian junior forward Antun Maricevic added four points and seven boards in the decisive final.

Earlier this week, Croatian Ante Sustic and Swede Wilhelm Von Arndt were crowned CIT champions with Marshall, but neither European upstart played in the final. The Thundering Therd beat Green Bay, 90-70, at Huntington. Also, Texas defeated Lipscomb, 81-66, in the NIT final.

Moretti ready for Final Four action

The NCAA Division I season will conclude at Minneapolis with Saturday’s Final Four semifinals and Monday’s final. Texas Tech with sophomore Italian forward Davide Moretti and freshman French forward Josh Mballa will face Michigan State and Virginia with freshman Italian forward Francesco Badocchi will go up against Auburn.
