Maccabi Tel Aviv published a video of a Hapoel Tel Aviv fan physically attacking a Maccabi staff member during Sunday’s (12/5) match between the two teams.

The video shows the Hapoel fan first verbally abusing and then actually hitting Maccabi physiotherapist Alexey Peisman on the back of his head. Security personnel near the bench didn’t intervene to stop the fan who was allowed to continue harassing the physiotherapist.

Peisman filed a complaint with the police against the fan who attacked him.

Maccabi swingman Michael Roll reacted to his club’s tweet of the video, saying that: “Is there any video of pre game warm ups where their assistant coach purposely tries to roll the ball underneath me as I am jumping???”

Maccabi center Alex Tyus wrote: “Winner League, time to step up and do something?! Previous leagues I’ve played in would have kicked all the fans out and finished the game with no fans, and another game or two home games with no fans. Only way to prevent this ridiculous behavior… spitting on players, disgrace.” in a retweet of the video.”

During the game, Maccabi guard DeAndre Kane was spat by fans who also hurled items at him. When he spat some of the fans back, he got ejected.

Maccabi won 85 – 76 in overtime. “Yellows” coach Giannis Sfairopoulos refused to answer questions in the post-game presser due to the incidents that took place in the match.
