French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced earlier in April that no sporting events can take place in the country until at least September. France continues to suffer greatly, with more than 24,000 deaths caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

In the midst of it all, LNB still hopes action can return, even though most major sports league in the country have canceled their seasons.

As L’Equipe informs, in its Thursday teleconference, LNB did not pronounce the end of the 2019-2020 season of the Jeep Elite and the Pro B which remain suspended until September. This will be submitted to the vote of a general assembly at the end of May, as will the format of the 2020-2021 competition.

The option of a concluding at the start of the school year (in September) by playing the last nine rounds of the Jeep Elite and the last 11 rounds of the Pro B is therefore not abandoned, despite the health guidelines and financial constraints which pushed most major sports leagues to call off their seasons.

LNB stated, in a press release following the teleconference:

“The general assembly will have to decide ultimately on the possibility of ending the 2019-2020 season in September, depending on the health restrictions and the guidelines for public gatherings. Otherwise, it will have to rule on the verdict of the 2019-2020 season (by naming a champion), relegations and promotions. All options examined will be exposed to the general assembly which will decide which one will be used. This vote will also include a decision on the relegation and promotion system for the coming seasons”.
