French League canceled the season without champions, won’t play behind closed doors except in exceptional circumstances, and will prioritize the regular season in case the 2020-21 campaign can’t be completed

The French League had its first-ever video conference and decided for the 2019-20 season not to resume as well as that there won’t be any champions.

There also won’t be any relegation or promotion and both the first and second division will keep the same number of teams in their lineup, 18 each.

A Health Committee has been created which will follow the situation and participate in future decisions. One of them will be whether the games will be played behind closed doors as the teams agreed not to do so, except in exceptional circumstances.

Last but not least, keeping in mind the current unprecedented situation, it was noted that the league is not immune to an incomplete 2020-21 campaign and the assembly decided to prioritize the regular season in case they can’t complete the season by June 15 and the standings would decide the champion.

So the next season may not include playoffs, since the league should be over by the 15th of January, and LNB may delay its start in order to secure having fans on the gyms, when and if this is permitted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
