ASVEL, Monaco, Strasbourg advance to French League semifinals

The French League Final Eight tournament continued with three more teams moving to the semis.

ASVEL Villeurbanne, AS Monaco and Strasbourg joined Dijon in the knockout semifinal stage of the 2020-21 French Jeep Elite League Final Eight.

Monaco made the beginning in the three quarterfinal games that were held Monday by beating Bourg 91 – 72 behind 21 points by Marcos Knight. Veteran Zach Wright had 22 points plus eight rebounds for Bourg.

Before the match, Monaco boss Zvezda Mitrovic received his French League Coach of the Year award by Prince Albert.

Strasbourg trailed 50 – 58 early in the fourth period but came back to defeat Boulogne Levalois 79 – 68. Ishmail Wainwright delivered 19 points and six rebounds for the winning squad while Boulogne had Vitalis Chikoko (11 points, six boards) as its top overall contributor.

Thanks to a dominant performance from start to finish and Paul Lacombe’s diverse game (19 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals for 33 PIR) ASVEL made short work of Le Mans 97 – 79.
