Strasbourg moves past Monaco and to the Cup Final

Strasbourg aims to win the French Cup title for the third time in the history of the club.

Strasbourg beat AS Monaco 86 – 73 in overtime and became the first team to advance to the 2022 edition of the French Cup Final (23/4). The winning side came back from a 13-point deficit with five minutes to play and overpowered its opponents 16 – 3 in the extra period to get the victory.

DeAndre Lansdowne had 16 points for Strasbourg and Jordan Howard posted 15 points plus five rebounds. Kameron Taylor was everywhere on the floor to finish with 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists while Jean Baptiste Maille had 13 points and five dimes. Their team trailed 30 – 47 halfway through the third quarter and 54 – 67 halfway through the fourth period before rallying to go up 70 – 68 with 46 seconds remaining in regulation.

Mike James scored 19 points and dished out five assists for Monaco. Donta Hall dropped 13 points and grabbed five boards while scoring the game-tying-layup after an offensive rebound with five seconds to play. Taylor missed in a 3-point attempt to win the match and the battle was extended for five more minutes.

The overtime was all Strasbourg with Monaco scoring just three free throws. Lassi Tuovi’s players began with a 9-0 run to get in a pole position and kept Monaco at bay until the finale.

Strasbourg will meet Pau Orthez in the Cup Final. The latter qualified thanks to a 88 – 85 win over BCM Gravelines.
