Promising prospect, the frontrunner for the top selection in the 2023 NBA draft, Victor Wembanyama was bound to eventually lose. Following a long winning streak, that was the case as Metropolitans 92 was blown out by Roanne, 102-77, Tuesday night.

Wembanyama, 18, ended up with 15 points, six rebounds, three blocks, and two assists over 29 minutes in Halle Andre Vacheresse. He connected 6/9 two-pointers and 1/5 three-pointers but did not go to the line for a free throw. The team guided by Vincent Collet was coming off nine wins in a row dominating France’s Betclic Elite LNB Pro A Regular Season the last couple of months.

A rookie coming out of Howard Bison, Kyle Foster matched his season-high 22 points. Stefan Moody pairing 16 points with nine assists and Silvio De Sousa posting a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double were also making things happen for Roanne. The third consecutive win lifted the team coached by Jean-Denys Choulet to 5-6.

Since drawing even more attention in the early-season USA tour and brilliant showings against G League Ignite, Wembanyama has been tremendous toward unnatural. His impressive showings powered Metropolitans 92 to nine straight wins all the way to the top of the standings. Certainly, more spectacular performances to come deeper in the 2022-23 season.

Shy of extending the streak in the rescheduled Round 4 contest allowed AS Monaco to climb up to first place after routing fellow Turkish Airlines EuroLeague participant LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, 97-78, at home in a rescheduled Round 14 affair held Tuesday. Also, Cholet edged Fos-sur-Mer, 73-70, in a pushed-back Round 2 game to catch Metropolitans 92 at 9-2.
