Steadily pulling away in the second half, AS Monaco bests LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne

Reinforcing command on France’s Betclic Elite LNB Pro A Regular Season, AS Monaco defeated LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, 72-63, in Astroballe to wrap up Round 19 Sunday.

Elie Okobo led all scorers with 20 points behind 7/16 field goals. Mike James followed with 13 points. A recent addition to the team coached by Sasa Obradovic, Chima Moneke had 12 points. Alpha Diallo shaped the fourth double-digit scoring effort packing in ten points. Donta Hall chipped in seven points, ten rebounds, and three assists. Jordan Loyd and Donatas Motiejunas did not suit up.

In control through most of the first half, T.J. Parker’s side did not get significant separation and instead trailed the entire second half. Dropping the home game versus the other Turkish Airlines EuroLeague participant of LNB Pro A drew up a 10-9 record, tied for sixth place on the standings. Retin Obasohan with 16 points and Dee Bost with 13 points stood out in the losing effort. Besides Joffrey Lauvergne (knee), the rest of the players were available.

Earlier in the Round 19 schedule, super prospect Victor Wembanyama and Metropolitans 92 fell to Roanne. Banking in the win against Villeurbanne, La Roca Team distanced itself by a margin of two games from second-placed Mets.
