Victor Wembanyama scored 29 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a knockout game for the French Cup quarterfinals but his performance wasn’t enough against his former team.

Behind 18 points plus five assists by veteran superstar Nando De Colo, ASVEL Villeurbanne beat Boulogne-Levallois 72 – 65 and punched a ticket to the Leaders Cup semifinals.

Wembanyama had 27 of his points by the third period as Boulogne trailed 55-60. He struggled to connect to the basket in the fourth quarter and ASVEL retained a steady advantage via its defense.

During the 34 minutes he spent on the floor, Wemby shot 8-15 on 2-pointers, 2-8 triples and 7-10 free throws while his team went 20-54 from the field. He committed five turnovers and stole the ball twice.

DeVante Jones had 14 points for Boulogne and no other player scored more than seven points. On the other side, Dee Bost provided ASVEL with 11 points plus eight assists while Jonah Matthews dropped 10 points.

ASVEL will play against Le Mans for a spot in the Final. The latter defeated Cholet 84 – 77 thanks to the trio of Brynton Lemar (19 points), Matt Morgan (18 points) and Terry Tarpey (17 points, seven rebounds).

Earlier, JL Bourg stunned favorite AS Monaco to qualify to the semifinals.
