Mike James scored 22 points to push AS Monaco to an 84 – 62 win over Paris Basketball in a clash between the first and second-placed teams in the French League standings.

Monaco stormed into the game to take an early 23 – 9 lead after 10 minutes. Paris trimmed that deficit to 43 – 33 at halftime and then approached 51 – 47.

The response by Monaco was swift to reclaim a double-digit advantage and close the third period ahead 65 – 51. This time the hosts didn’t leave their opponents any room for a comeback and cruised to win.

Elie Okobo had 15 points for Monaco while Jaron Blossongame added 13 points plus six rebounds. TJ Shorts was the only Paris player in double figures with 13 points.

ASVEL Villeurbanne benefitted from the Monaco – Paris result to now climb to the second spot in the standings. Gianmarco Pozzecco’s players had previously defeated Boulogne – Levallois 110 – 74, moving to 11 – 4.
