AS Monaco and Le Mans will face each other in the final of the French Leaders Cup as they both won their semifinal games today.
In the first semifinal, Monaco beat Asvel 79-66 thanks to their trademark defense. The team coached by a Zvezda Mitrovic allowed only 11 points to Asvel in the first period, building a 9 point-lead (20-11).
The reigning champion was in full control as they didn’t allow Asvel to try for a comeback. With Christopher Evans’ 15 points and D.J. Cooper pacing the game with 8 assists AS Monaco was up by 15 midway through the fourth quarter (65-50, 34th). Cooper also scored 12 points while David Lightly and DeMarcus Nelson had 11 points each for Asvel
Monaco is aiming to celebrate the third consecutive title in the French Cup after winning the last two.
To do that they will have to beat Le Mans that defeated Nanterre 92 82-74 thanks to a strong first quarter. Le Mans set the tone early by winning the first quarter 24-17 and retained a lead.
