Mahmutoglu pushes Fener to Turkish Cup Final Four

Fenerbahce needed some big buckets by its captain to pass the Tofas Bursa obstacle.

Melih Mahmutoglu scored a game-high 27 points including the go-ahead triple and Fenerbahe overcame Tofas Bursa 93 – 88 in overtime after a comeback from down 20 to advance to the Turkish Cup Final Four.

Mahmutoglu shot 7 – 12 3-pointers and hit the three for the 88 – 90 with 1:14 to play in the extra period. Devin Booker stopped Tyler Ennis on the other end Pierria Henry misfired on a 3-point attempt.

Tofas had back-to-back opportunities to tie or win the game. First, Ennis attempted a drive but Booker once again played some great defense on him, and then Tofas top performer Elgin Cook (20 points, seven rebounds) missed his wide-open 3-pointer. Booker secured the rebound with three seconds to play and the win for Fener with it.

By the mid of the second period, Tofas was leading 44 – 24 and went up 48 – 37 at halftime before Fener began to close the gap piece by piece. In the fourth period, Sasha Djordjevic’s approached 69 – 64 with an 0-8 run.

Marko Guduric put Fener ahead 73 – 76 with 2:15 to play in regulation and Berk Ugurlu scored the game-tying free throws with 32 seconds to play.

Dyshawn Pierre added 15 points to Fener‘s win while Booker finished with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Apart from Cook, Tomislav Zubcic and Kasey Shepherd scored 18 apiece for Tofas.
