The first half of the season in Spor Toto Basketball League was completed today. The first eight teams in the standings have earned the right to participate in the Turkish Cup.
This year marked a change in the status of the competition. The games of the Turkish Cup will only be played on the middle of the season, with the best eight teams, according to the standings, competing for the trophy. These teams are: Anadolu Efes, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray Odeabank, Banvit Bandirma, Darussafak Dogus, Pinar Karsiyaka, Trabzonspor Medical Park and Demir Insaat Buyukcekmece.
A curious thing is that initially it was decided that there will not be any draw among the participants. The plan called for the team that is 1st in the standings to play with the 8th, the 2nd with the 7th etc. But, in the end everyone accepted the fact that there had to be a draw, which will happen in 25 of January. Each team will get a number from 1 to 8.
The games will be as followed:
1 vs 8
2 vs 7
3 vs 6
4 vs 5
Only this time, the match ups will be random. The Turkish Cup will be held on 17 – 21 of February.
