Following yesterday’s slapping incident with Melih Mahmutoglu in a timeout during the Turkish League loss to Banvit, Fenerbahce head coach Zeljko Obradovic made the following statement that was released by the club:

“I love all of my players and have a different relationship with each one of them. Melih is the captain of the team and he is the only player I have (always) worked with since I came to here. What happened yesterday was the result of my desire to wake up the whole team and fire them up until the end of the game, while we weren’t playing good basketball. What happened should be taken into consideration like that. They (the players) know and act according to this. Everything I do is the same with how a father acts with his son. Anyone in the team or club interpret that in no other way. I don’t understand how the media had the news like that. I don’t exactly know what is being talked about outside of the team. But me, Melih my team and my assistants will keep working hard and won’t listen to anything outside of us which would have a chance to harm the dynamics of our team. We won’t let anything distract us from our goals.”
