Five players scored in double figures as Fenerbahce defeated Buyukcekmece 88 – 80 on the road to improve its Turkish league to 20 – 3 and further cement its hold on the top spot in the standings.
Gigi Datome dropped a team-high 16 points for the defending champions while James Nunnally had 11 points plus 4 assists. Nicolo Melli added 10 points, Jason Thompson scored 10 and grabbed 7 rebounds and Kostas Sloukas notched 10 points plus 7 assists.
Buyukcekmece needed more than Erving Walker’s 26 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists plus the 14 points and 7 assists by veteran Bracey Wright, especially down the stretch.
With the score 70 – 73 and six minutes remaining, Fener managed an impressive 3 – 15 run that pretty much sealed the game in their favor. The hosts couldn’t recover from a 15-point deficit with two minutes left.
This result dropped Buyukcekmce closer to elimination zone since they are now 14th with 7 – 16.
