Brose Bamberg desperately needing to beat Casademont Zaragoza on Tuesday to retain hopes for a Basketball Champions League Final 8 berth generated a record-breaking showing. The team coached by Johan Roijakkers did much more than simply secure the victory and improve to 1-2 in Group L. The 21 three-pointers were the most made by any team in a single game through BCL history.

“My players had a fantastic game. They came out storming and the storm never went down,” said the German club’s head coach congratulating his players for the outstanding performance and record-breaking effort from beyond the arc, “I really liked the pace that they played with. Huge congrats to my players for keeping our Final 8 hopes alive.”

The remaining Round of 16 games for Bamberg include home contests versus ERA Nymburk and Dinamo Sassari and a visit to Sassari. Still an uphill challenge with Zaragoza and Nymburk still in charge of the group but earning praise from an experienced head coach the likes of Sergio Hernandez certainly boosts confidence.

“It was a really bad night for us and an amazing night for Bamberg,” summed up the Argentine boss ruling out luck being a noteworthy part of the record, “Congratulations for the 21 three-pointers. It wasn’t only that, they played so smartly, exactly how any team should play against us.”

Michele Vitali connected six of those triples as part of his 8/8 field goals for the night. The Italian guard produced 23 points in less than 19 minutes.

“We played with unbelievable energy,” he mentioned in his post-game statement, “Everybody was ready to help each other with every mistake. The readiness to help was key from the beginning. In offense, it was the flow of the game and us creating a lot of shots.”

EWE Baskets Oldenburg dialing in 20 triples in the win, 100-80, versus UCAM Murcia held the record for the most threes since November 2017. The incoming German team facing another Spanish team retained the record in familiar territory.
