Cory Joseph spoke to Eurohoops about his transformation over the summer, his first season in Europe, and expectations for the upcoming season

As soon as Olympiacos began preparations for the new season, photos of the new and almost transformed for the better Cory Joseph started going viral and became a topic of discussion and admiration among the fans of the reds. And not just them.

“How did Cory change like that?” “What did he do over the summer?” “The Canadian is ripped” and other similar comments along with photos showing the veteran guard of the European champions visibly in improved physical condition compared to last year.

Diet and hard work,” Joseph told Eurohoops. “Last year before I came, I was in a different phase in my career… I didn’t even know what direction I would take regarding whether to [continue with] basketball or not. But I loved everything. The season reignited the flame inside me.

What is the mentality? That you want to be the best.”

It is natural for a player like Joseph to feel that he can – and perhaps has the obligation – to act as a mentor for his teammates, especially the new or younger ones. After all, he carries abundant experience, rich experiences, and a patented “Know-How” in winning.

For the Canadian guard himself, this process is reciprocal. As he explained, as much as he has to teach the “newcomers” of Olympiacos, like the rising star Jean Montero or Cody Miller-McIntyre, he might have just as much to learn from them.

In basketball, you share experiences. Wherever I can help, I will. Similarly, whatever [Montero and Miller-McIntyre] see on the court or whatever they do, there are many things I might be able to take from them.

That’s how basketball is. This is part of being on a team. To learn the other and learn from the other.

Joseph spoke to Eurohoops about his possibly most important role next season, his desire to bring his body to a point where it can follow his cerebral game, and what his team needs to succeed in the coveted back-to-back EuroLeague championship.

He also explained why “Charged Up” – in which he is given special mention – by Drake is the ideal soundtrack for last season’s completely successful campaign for him and Olympiacos.
