Guerschon Yabusele sat across from Nikos Pantelis for the Season 3 premiere of Eurohoops’ ‘Feeling Awkward’ series, and seemed to regret it immediately. Pantelis crashed the EuroLeague preseason media days to roast the new arrivals, and the 30-year-old forward was first in line.
The host started by introducing Yabusele as living proof that you can fail at the exact same NBA dream twice.
It didn’t get easier from there.
When asked what he has in common with Kobe Bryant, a cornered Yabusele could only offer that they both love family and work hard. Pantelis then brought up a summer vlog from Mykonos, asking if the gym footage was only filmed because he was terrified coach Zeljko Obradovic might see it. The French import admitted it was a bit of both.
Then came the money questions. The host of the Eurohoops series brought up the massive buyout Yabusele paid out of pocket to leave Real Madrid for the NBA, bluntly asking if anyone else has ever spent millions just to become completely unimportant on a bench. Yabusele took the hit. He admitted it took him only a couple of months to realize he had become the exact benchwarmer he promised himself he would never be.
The roast wrapped up with a trip down memory lane to his initial NBA stint with the Boston Celtics, where fans mostly remember him for dancing during games. To honor that legacy, Pantelis handed over a Celtics jersey. It was a size small, specifically chosen to represent Yabusele’s actual role on the team.
