Backed by a late run, CSKA Moscow defeated UNICS Kazan, 83-76, in VTB United League action Sunday.
Red-hot Mike James made 7/15 field goals for a team-high 22 points lifting his side to 8-2. Tornike Shengelia put up an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double. Darrun Hilliard threw in 16 more points on the road.
Isaiah Canaan finished with 36 points, including 19 in the second half but landed on the wrong end of the result and fell to 5-4 for the season.
Zenit Saint-Petersburg held on in Kazakhstan to improve its league-leading record to 8-1. Will Thomas registered a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Arturas Gudaitis was responsible for 18 points in the win, 77-70, over Astana. Martins Meiers hit a team-high 17 points for the hosts.
Khimki Moscow Region made short work of Parma Perm, 103-83, in other action. The team sitting at the bottom of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague table went up to 4-5 in the VTB as Alexey Shved in a commanding display poured 28 points and dished out ten assists.
