Avtodor Saratov added Cheick Diallo inking him to a contract for the remainder of the 2020-21 season, the Russian team announced Tuesday.

“I am very happy to play for Avtodor in the VTB United League,” mentioned the Malian forward/center, “I look forward to traveling to Russia, work under coach Gordon Herbert, and help the team win.”

Diallo, 24, coming out of Kansas split his first four pro seasons between the NBA and G League. He appeared in 187 NBA games between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Phoenix Suns.

“We hope that he can add strength and versatility to our defense,” noted Herbert, “He gained NBA experience the past four years. Coming to Europe is a new step and a challenge for him.”

The Avtodor newcomer was selected with the 33rd overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2016 NBA draft and was immediately traded to the Pelicans. After three seasons as part of the New Orleans organization, he joined the Suns and averaged 4.7 points ad 2.8 rebounds per match last season.

His new team currently sits 7th in the VTB standings on a 7-7 record.
