Keene and Kemp combine for 50, Kalev upsets CSKA

Hilliard had a career-high 38 points for CSKA but his team couldn’t stop Kalev’s offense.

Marcus Keene posted 26 points, eight assists and six rebounds, Maurice Kemp added 24 points plus six boards and Kalev Tallinn delivered the upset in VTB League by beating powerhouse CSKA Moscow 107 – 102 at home.

Kalev scored 39 points in the fourth period vs. CSKA‘s 23 to get its first-ever victory over the Russian side and third win this season in VTB.

Darrun Hilliard’s  38 points (a VTB career-high and overall career-high-tying output) wasn’t enough for the once again shorthanded CSKA that suffered its second straight loss in VTB and fourth in all competitions. Mike James had 19 points for the “Army Men” that were minus Nikola Milutinov (done for the season), Will Clyburn and Tornike Shengelia.

After this defeat, CSKA dropped to 10 – 4 and the third place in the standings. Kalev is second to last with 3-12.

Jamar Smith paced UNICS Kazan to a 110-97 victory over Avtodor on the road with a 29-point performance, while Gian Lopez tapped 31 points for the hosts.

On Monday, Nigel Williams-Goss banked in a game-winner at the buzzer for Lokomotiv Kuban’s 92-90 road victory over Khimki Moscow Region.

The hero of the night finished with 11 points while Mindaugas Kuzminskas had 24 and Kevin Hervey 21. Mantas Kalnietis dished 15 assists to make things happen.

For Khimki, Alexey Shved scored 27 and Jordan Mickey 20 points. Shved also logged ten assists.
