Khimki stays alive against Zenit St. Petersburg

It was a must win game for Khimki and that’s what happened. The Moscow Region team prevailed and cut the lead of Zenit St. Petersburg to 2-1 in the VTB United League semifinals.

Οn the day that Alexey Shved was announced as the league’s MVP he had 22 points as Khimki got the easy 97-73 win. The hosts set the tone from the get-go, leading 30-21 after the start of the first period.

Zenit tried to stay close, but Khimki had things under control and also a 80-58 lead at the end of the third period. E.J.Rowland added 17 points for the winners and Marko Todorovic flirted with the double-double (15 p., 9 r.).

Sergey Karasev, the leading scorer of Zenit, scored 14 points, Stefan Markovic had a full stats line (11 p., 7 r., 5 as.) but it was not enough.
