Unics Kazan survived the overtime thriller winning it in the last second against Niznhy Novgorod on the road.

Melvin Ejim scored a fade-away two-point bucket in the last second of the game after Jamar Smith’s missed shot and handed Unics Kazan a 95-94 overtime win against Nizhny Novgorod in Game 3 of VTB League quarterfinals for the 2-1 in best-of-five series.

Vladim Panin had put Niznhy ahead by one point (83-82) with a shot from behind the arc but in the following offense, Smith answered with a three-pointer of his own giving Unics an 85-82 lead. The hosts played it safe after a timeout and Ivan Strebkov tied the game at 85 taking it to the extra five minutes after which Unics turned out victorious in the last second.

Ejim, the hero of this evening, scored a team-high 21 points while adding nine rebounds. He got help from Smith with 20 and Maurice Ndour with 18 points. On the other side, Stevan Jelovac scored 21 while Petr Gubanov added 20 in addition to Strebkov’s 16 points.

Unics will have a chance to finish things and advance to the semifinals after Game 4 which is scheduled for Thursday 31st of May.
