What a perfect way to begin the Eurocup Top 16 for Lokomotiv Kuban. The team from Krasnodar defeated the previously undefeated at home Gran Canaria 86 – 71 getting a pole position in Group E right from the start.
The duo of Matt Janning and Ryan Broekhoff hurt their opponents, particularly from the perimeter where they combined for 9/13 three-pointers. Janning finished the match with 19 points and 4 assists (sort of making up for his… nine turnovers) while the Australian swingman had 17 points and 4 rebounds.
Kevin Jones and Ian Vougioukas also dropped 12 points each making their own share of damage from the low post.
On the other side, Gran Canaria lacked scoring options, shooting 7/25 from downtown but, more importantly, failing to capitalize on Lokomotiv Kuban’s 20 (!) turnovers. Kyle Kuric had 13 points while Richard Hendrix and Bo McCalebb added 11 apiece.
