Turkish Basketball Super League “rookie” Buyukcekmece wore once again its “killer of giants” costume. After the first round triumph against Fenerbahce, this time coach Ozhan Civgin’s players completed a stunning overtie victory 94 – 89 against Galatasaray, and keep fighting for a spot in the playoffs.

It was the same case scenario with the first game between the two teams, that had been decided in overtime. Only this time, it was Buyukcekmece that smiled in the end, thanks to Erving Walker scoring 6 out of his 18 points in the extra five minutes, plus two consecutive baskets that made the score 92 – 89 from 88 – 89, with less than one minute to go. The 26-year old point guard sort of redeemed himself since he could have won the game for his team in the last seconds of regular time, but made only 1/2 from the line.

Michael Roll “wrote” the final numbers on the scoreboard, finishing the game with 25 points. He was the best player for Buyukcekmece, also dishing 6 assists and grabbing 5 rebounds.

Speaking of free throws, Errick McCollum, a notoriously accurate player from that position, missed both of his shots when the score was 90 – 89. The American player had 14 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds, while Vladimir Micov was his team’s first scorer with 20 points.  Galatasaray with a 18-8 record is currently second in the standings over Fenerbahce (19-6), which has played one game less, while Buyukcekmece is 9th (13-13).
