Hungary’s national team hadn’t won a game in a Eurobasket tournament since 1969, but this streak ended today with a victory over the Czech Republic! The final score says it all: Hungary – Czech Republic: 85-73. After starting the Eurobasket 0-2, Hungary picked up a crucial win over the Czech Republic that keeps the team ‘fighting’ for a spot in the Top-16. Hungary improves to a 1-2 record while the Czech Republic falls to a 1-2 record.

Hungary started the game off on an 18-6 (Q1 -3:56) run and had the upper hand in the game since early on. The first half ended 44-33 in favor of Hungary. In the third quarter, the Hungarians kept their lead even though their lead dropped to eight points. In the fourth quarter, Hanga was spectacular, showed his leadership skills and led his team to victory.

The star: Who else could it be? Adam Hanga, the Hungarian star had an amazing stat-line as he flirted with a triple-double. He scored 31 points (6/9 from deep!), grabbed 8 rebounds, handed out 8 assists, while also playing lock down defense and leading his team past the Czech Republic. David Vojdova added 18 points.

The key: Since early on, Hungary picked up a 12-point lead and seemed to have the upper hand in the game. This lead was the key to their victory over the Czech Republic as they kept it until the end.

Not enough: From Czech Republic, Patrick Auda was impressive off the bench with 15 points and some highlight plays on the defensive side of the court. Wizards‘ shooting guard, Tomas Satoransky added 18 points and 7 rebounds.
