The decisive “Spanish showdown” of the last EuroCup Top 16 round finished with a victory of Gran Canaria over Fuenlabrada that sends the winners to the next stage, while eliminating their opponents.

Sasu Salin and Royce O’Neale dropped 19 points each, with the latter also adding 7 rebounds and 6 assists, as Gran Canaria defeated Fuenlabrada 100 – 76 in Las Palmas, grabbing the last remaining ticket to the EuroCup quarterfinals.

Gran Canaria finished second in Group E and will face Hapoel Jerusalem, that beat Nizhny Novgorod earlier, in the next stage.

After a balanced first half (47 – 47) coach Casimiro’s team became particularly dominant, assuming a 74 – 61 control at the end of the third quarter. The guests made it a single-digits game, 79 – 70 but then their opponents once again build a strong lead which they kept for the remainder of the match.

Marko Popovic had 15 for Fuenlabrada and became the all-time top EuroCup scorer in the process. Ivan Paunic, Ludde Hakanson and Luka Rupnik added 10 points apiece.,
