Zenit St. Petersburg strengthened its roster by inking center Shayne Whittington to a one-year deal, the club announced Thursday night.

Whittington (2.09 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro, where he averaged 11.7 points on 44.7% three-point shooting and 5.5 rebounds in 31 Spanish League games last season. He started his career with Indiana of the NBA and also played for Fort Wayne of the D-League before joining Obradoiro last season. Before that, Whittington finished his four-year college career at Western Michigan University, averaging 16 points and nine rebounds in 32 NCAA games in the 2013-14 season. He helped Fort Wayne reach the D-League final in 2015. Whittington is set to make his 7DAYS EuroCup debut with Zenit next season.
