David Blatt had signed a two year deal with Darussafaka Dogus last summer, however he is going to leave the team at the end of the season since they won’t participate in the 2017/2018 EuroLeague.

The writings were on the wall, but now, with no EuroLeague wildcard chance for Darussafaka, it’s confirmed. According to Eurohoops sources, coach David Blatt will be a free agent in the summer.

The fact that Darussafaka is going to play in the Eurocup is a deal-breaker for him. When it comes to working in Europe, Blatt wants to coach exclusively in the top-tier level and that’s the EuroLeague. Blatt campaigned for Darussafaka in EuroLeague and a wildcard but with Dogus being near a deal with Fenerbahce, there’s no possibility for the Turkish club to keep him.

Darussafaka will play in the Eurocup and Blatt will be one of the “Most Wanted” coaches in the continent for EuroLeague teams that would need a new man at the helm.

It remains to be seen which clubs will be looking for a new head coach with after the end of their domestic league obligations. One of them is definitely Maccabi Tel Aviv, the team with which Blatt won the continental crown of 2014. The “Yellows” are already on the market to acquire a big name as head coach after a new disappointing run in EuroLeague.
