ULEB’s president and former player Tomas Van Den Spiegel clarified that in yesterday’s meeting of the EuroLeague and the domestic leagues there was no agreement in place from ULEB’s side.

EuroLeague announced that “the domestic league representatives agreed that the global calendar proposal should be part of a wider agreement between Euroleague Basketball and FIBA based on cooperation, respect, and clearly defined roles and responsibilities, in order for each organization to successfully promote and grow the sport of basketball”.

The word “agreed” seems to be the issue here. According to Van Den Spiegel: “In fact, we discussed and we took note of the principles of the proposal. But nothing was agreed to by the domestic leagues except for the fact that FIBA and Euroleague should reinitiate talks”.

However, according to sources which were present in the meeting, all the domestic leagues did agree on the objectives behind the global calendar part of the proposal with ULEB being the only exception.
