Crvena Zvezda officially announced that it will permit its Serbian players to join their national team for the World Cup Qualifiers.

That means that team captain Branko Lazic plus Nemanja Dangubic and Nikola Jovanovic, the players included in the squad ahead of the games for November’s Window, are available to Sasa Djordjevic.

Djordjevic had also named Red Star‘s Ognjen Dobric and Nikola Radicevic on the preliminary roster.

The “Orlovi” begin their obligations in the World Cup Qualifiers by facing Austria (Friday, November 24) and Georgia (Monday, November 27) in Belgrade.

In the announcement by the ABA League champions, it’s mentioned that this decision was taken, “…together with players and the club is very thankful to coach Sasa Djordjevic and the Basketball Federation for their understanding of the situation.”

The club also adds that: “Regardless of the fact that Red Star’s calendar for the 2017-2018 campaign is extremely difficult and filled with numerous games, it has always been a great honor for the club to have representatives of the country in its ranks.”

UPDATE:

Eurohoops has learned that Lazic, Dangubic, and Jovanovic will play in Thursday’s (November 23) EuroLeague match vs Baskonia in Belgrade and will be incorporated in the national team the next day. However, it’s unlikely that they will play against Austria.
