Olimpia Milano‘s victory at home over Varese in the ‘old school derby’ completed Sunday’s Legabasket action. Milano got their second straight victory and sit at the top of the standings.

Early in the game, Varese was competing against Milano, but in the second half, Milano showed their quality, as their offense was clicking on all cylinders and got a 10-point lead (52-42 – 8.00, Q3). Varese cut the lead down to one point (67-66) (2:48 – 4Q) in the fourth quarter, as they challenged the home team. Milano, with Andrew Goudelock (21 points), and Jordan Theodore (21 points) leading, scored some tough, clutch shots and free-throws down the stretch and finally got the close 74-73 win.

Aside from Milano, the defending champs Venezia got a crucial one-point victory at home against Trento, while Avelino was blown out by Brescia away from home. Reggiana, also lost to Pesaro 95-102, as did Sassari away from home vs Torino.

Moreover, Virtus Bologna got their first win in the first division since the 2015-2016 season against Capo d’Orlando with Alessandro Gentile scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

The second gameday of Legabasket will be completed tomorrow with the game between Pistoia and Brindisi.
