CSKA Moscow and coach Dimitris Itoudis officially announced that the latter won’t take charge of the Greek National Team after the Greek Federation’s proposal.

Both the coach and CSKA‘s president, Andrey Vatutin and the coach addressed the offer in their official statement:

Vatutin stated the following: “Of course working in the national team is a great honor for any coach. We appreciate that the Greek Federation picked the CSKA coach, and I personally have great respect for Mr. Vassilakopoulos as a bright leader of European basketball. At the same time, the national team is not only a challenge but also a huge burden, responsibility and pressure. As a coach, Dimitris will have not fully recover physically and psychologically after this exhausting club season and will not be able to combine the proper concentration of the job in the national team and in CSKA.

Dimitris Itoudis: “For me it would have been a great honor to lead the national team of my country and lead it to success. However, after talking with CSKA and the Greek federation, we realized that the existing calendar makes it is almost impossible to properly serve the interests of my club and the national team, because both sides deserve my  full attention on the road to success. I’m always ready to help the national team, and I hope that will happen at the right moment. I want to thank the Greek federation and Mr. Vasilakopoulos for their trust and hope that we will have the chance to work together in the future.”
