Unicaja Malaga has announced a new agreement with versatile forward Dani Diez, who on Thursday signed a one-year contract with an option to extend it until the end of the 2018-19 season.

Diez (2.02 meters, 24 years old) helping Unicaja win the 7DAYS EuroCup title last season by averaging 5 points and 3.1 rebounds in 22 games. He hit 3 critical three-point shots in Game 3 of the EuroCup Finals against Valencia Basket, which Unicaja won 58-63 in come-from-behind fashion to lift its first trophy in 11 years. Diez started his career with Real Madrid and also played for Gipuzkoa Basket before joining Unicaja in 2015.

He has also been a member of the Spanish national team. Diez helped Spain win respective gold medals at the 2009 U16 European Championships and the 2011 U18 European Championships, as well as getting a bronze medal at the 2013 U20 European Championships. Diez helped Madrid reach the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Championship Game in 2014, but lost against Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv. He won the Spanish Copa del Rey with Madrid in 2014. “I am very happy to stay here after two years which were very positive for me. We come off a great year, both for me and the club. Everything went very well and we won the EuroCup, a very important title which takes us back to the EuroLeague,” Diez said. “It has been important to be trusted by my coach and teammates. I took a step forward in the last months of the competition, helped in what our coach asked from me, and I hope that next season, I can play like that from the beginning. The EuroLeague is a challenge and we will try to give everything so that the club and our fans are happy.”
