The Phoenix Suns are trying to lure Bogdan Bogdanovic in the NBA, but they are restricted by the rookie salary scale.

As Arizona Centrel reports“This is the last year that Bogdanovic would be required to sign on the NBA rookie scale as the Suns‘ No. 27 draft pick in 2014. That contract could pay him up to $5.7 million over four years, including two team options. The Suns are allowed to contribute as much as $650,000 toward Bogdanovic’s buyout from Fenerbahce with Bogdanovic paying the remainder”.

Things will change however after next summer. “If Bogdanovic does not sign with the Suns this year, the Suns would retain his rights in 2017 but Bogdanovic could then negotiate a contract for any amount with the minimum being his draft year’s rookie salary scale“.

Considering the raise of the salary cap and the restrictions of the rookie salary scale, there’s no question about the fact that Bogdanovic will get a much better contract if he decides to stay in Fenerbahe for one more year. An open negotiation on the summer of 2017 with the base being his rookie salary, will have without questions better financial results for him. Of course, it’s also about the wish of the player and the challenge of the NBA.

Still with Bogdanovic being just 23 years old and Fenerbahce competing for the Euroleague title, it makes more than sense in any possible way for him to wait at least for one more year before going to the NBA.
