With the general assembly of Real Madrid coming soon, the Spanish press reports that president Florentino Perez talked with NBA commisioner Adam Silver about the possibility of Real Madrid becoming the 31st team of the NBA.

The same happened in 2015, during NBA’s visit to London, when Adam Silver spoke openly for a European division, however the story started a decade ago and it’s well chronicled in the recent past. Real Madrid started talking for its possible inclusion in the NBA back in 2006, while rumors around Europe since 2004 indicated that Madrid, Panathinaikos and CSKA Moscow were going to be part of the core of a possible expansion.

There’s a lot of smoke on the matter, but not fire. And for the moment it seems that the expansion of the NBA in Europe in the near future will come in the form of the NBA ambassadors and it will be focused on young talent.
