Spanish Professional Players Union (ABP) president Alfonso Reyes warned that a potential decision by ACB and the clubs to resume the Spanish League season without all the necessary health guarantees will draw the ire of players.

“If the ACB and the clubs decide to resume the competition again without guarantees for their health that are close to 100%, they will take measures and denounce (take legal measures) the clubs and ACB. And we will support them,” Reyes said in a video conference, via Marca.

“There are many variables that haven’t been made clear yet. You have to see the situation week by week but most players are very clear that the first thing is health. This isn’t the flu, it destroys you, it’s a lethal virus. It’s not a game and, unfortunately, I know from experience,” Reyes, who was previously infected with the coronavirus, added.

Reyes also mentioned that, optimistically, a period of 20 to 30 days will be required for players to practice so that they regain the shape needed to compete. “We must bear in mind that in the most favorable scenario, it will take 20 or 30 days of preseason. If we start that in mid-May, the competition will end on July 10. The ACB intends to press the deadlines until the end, which is what it is. But players never contemplate playing beyond July 10.”
