2020-2021 in Spain may be played minus the postseason.

ACB has proposed to clubs the idea that the 2020-2021 Spanish League won’t have any playoffs, AS reports. The clubs were asked about their opinion on this scenario and if they would agree to it.

The proposal to change the format and have the 2021 Liga Endesa champion emerge without any postseason action comes as a result of the possibility that the league will have 20 teams next season instead of 18. ACB has yet to decide if there will be any promotions from the LEB Oro (Spain’s second division).

So far ACB seems to be moving towards the direction of a 2020-2021 season with 20 clubs. If this will become official, then an alternative plan is also to divide the teams into two groups of 10 and still have playoffs at the end of the season.

ACB is considering a playoff-less 2020-2021 because of the heavy schedule that also includes international competitions such as the EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers and the Olympic Games Qualifiers for the postponed Tokyo Olympics.
