Barça has a new face on its roster.

Jordi Trias is coming back home.

As announced today by the Blaugrana team, Jordi Trias, who was at the Palau Blaugrana during the defeat against Hiopos Lleida, has joined the Barça team.

Official Barça statement: “The former center for Barça basketball for six seasons is returning to strengthen the section’s structure. Trias, 44, is returning to the Club to perform support tasks in the sports department, as well as tasks related to the institutional area.

2017 was the last year in which Jordi Trias was linked to Barça. It was specifically in the ranks of Barça B, where the former center helped the young Barça stars in the final moments of his long and successful sports career.

Jordi Trias has had a fairly long playing career, 20 seasons to be exact, in which he has worn, among others, the jersey of four of the five Catalan teams currently participating in the Endesa League (Barça, Joventut, Manresa, and Girona).

Despite being from Girona and training in his homeland, his transfer to Barça represented a major step forward in the 2004/05 season. In the Barcelona ranks, Trias won an ACB League title (2009), two Copa del Rey titles (2007 and 2010), two Spanish Super Cups (2004 and 2009), and a Euroleague title (2010). In terms of individual titles, Jordi Trias was named MVP of the team’s Cup victory in Málaga (2007).

Trias has always had Barça in mind: “Despite not being part of it, it has always felt very much part of me, and it represents a huge dream, and I am very grateful for the trust they have placed in me.”

The Girona native highlights his role within the team: “I am here, above all, to support the sports department, as well as the more institutional aspect. I’ve always considered myself a Club man, first as a player, now as a worker, and whatever is required of me, I’ll be ready.”

The head of Barça basketball, Josep Cubells, highlights the “transversal” nature of Jordi Trias’s signing: “This is a reinforcement for the basketball structure. He will provide support to both the sporting and institutional aspects. He will play a transversal role. We need people like Jordi, because Barça basketball has many challenges ahead, and he will certainly help us. Furthermore, Trias is someone who knows the Club perfectly; he was one of the heroes of 2010, and therefore, it will be like coming home.”
