Real Madrid captain Sergio Llull delivered a scathing self-critique following the team’s elimination from the Champions League and the conclusion of a season that fell far short of expectations.

In a message posted on his social media profile and addressed to the fans, the veteran player acknowledged the team’s failure and accepted the responsibility that comes with wearing the Real Madrid jersey. Llull began by congratulating their opponents on their qualification: “Congratulations to Tenerife on reaching the semifinals, very well deserved,” he stated, recognizing the superiority shown by the Canary Island team in the tie, which ended 2-1 after two victories for Tenerife in Madrid.

The Balearic point guard did not hide his disappointment with Real Madrid’s performance throughout the season. “A season to forget for us,” he admitted in a message filled with self-criticism after a trophyless season. Furthermore, the captain wanted to directly address the Real Madrid fans to apologize for the results. “My apologies, Madrid fans. We haven’t lived up to the demands and responsibility that come with defending this badge,” he said.

Despite the bitter end, Llull also expressed his gratitude to the fans who have supported the team throughout the season. “Thank you for your support this year,” he said before concluding his message with the club’s traditional motto: “Hala Madrid always!”
