A new challenge with a very familiar face. La Laguna Tenerife has made the leap from the Basketball Champions League to the BKT EuroCup for the 2026-27 season, and the change in European competition will come, barring any unforeseen circumstances, with a familiar face.
According to Eurohoops sources, Kyle Guy is close to returning to La Laguna Tenerife, the team he played for during the 2023-24 season.
A graduate of the University of Virginia, Guy gained national recognition by leading the Virginia Cavaliers to the NCAA title in 2019, earning Final Four MVP honors.
That same year, he was drafted into the NBA and played for the Sacramento Kings and the Miami Heat, though he never quite established himself in the American league.
After a relatively unremarkable stint in the NBA, his best form came in Europe. After signing with Joventut Badalona in 2022, he became one of the top shooters in the Liga Endesa and the EuroCup. His performance earned him a move to Panathinaikos, but his experience with the Greek giant didn’t work out, and he landed at La Laguna Tenerife. In total, Kyle Guy has played 59 Liga Endesa games, averaging 13.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.
In 2024, he surprised everyone by announcing his retirement from professional basketball at just 26 years old to join the University of Virginia program, although he later returned to competition: after temporarily hanging up his sneakers, he played with the Noblesville Boom of the G League and the Chinese team Shanxi Loongs, with whom he finished the current season.
