Euroleague has sent a response to the Spanish Basketball Federation with a letter which specifically mentions that “it has no authority to advise Euroleague on what it can or cannot do”.

Euroleague has sent a response to the Spanish Basketball Federation with a letter which specifically mentions that “it has no authority to advise Euroleague on what it can or cannot do”.

The letter also mentions that Euroleague is exonerated of all responsibility if FIBA decides to possibly sanction the Spanish team, as AS reports. “It is not our responsibility of Euroleague if FIBA, through some illegal practices, decides to sanction the Spanish team of the 2016 Olympic Games or any other tournaments organized by FIBA. If this happens, it will be the sole responsibility of the Federation to protect and defend the right to participate in the games, which the men’s national team deserves to play, earning the right by showing brilliance on court”

This was a response to a letter that was sent to Jordi Bertomeu last Friday and was signed by Jose Luis Saez, president of the Spanish Basketball Federation. In it, it was mentioned that “the agreement with Euroleague which was approved by the general assembly of the ACB, cannot be  “For failure to comply with this, we reserve the right to make legal actions that correspond to damages that might be caused by possible FIBA sanctions”.
