Quesos Cerrato Palencia and Melilla BC, the two clubs that won the first two places in Leb Oro, Spain’s second division, thus earning a spot in Liga Endesa, have requested ACB to join in 2017-2018 instead of the upcoming season.

As ACB announced, the two clubs recognized their inability to fulfill the economical requirements and general criteria for membership in the Association, that are needed in order to participate in the Spanish league in 2016/2017.

This automatically allows Estudiantes (which finished 17th and was initially relegated in Leb Oro) to keep its place in Liga Endesa. The other vacant spot can be filled by Ourense which has until 00.00 on Wednesday 15 to apply for a membership and fulfill all the established conditions for participation in Spain’s first division.

If that doesn’t happen then San Sebastian, the other team that was relegated along with Estudiantes, by finishing in the 18th place in 2015/2016, will remain in Liga Endesa.
