Fenerbahce issued a statement Sunday in regards to some comments that were made by Enes Kanter last month and were repeated today. The Boston Celtics center mentioned he would like to play for Fenerbahce if he was to return to Turkey, though the club took a strong stance against him.

Their statement reads:

“The person named Enes Kanter shared on some of his social media accounts first on June 1, 2020, and secondly today with the same sentences.

We would like to inform the public about an issue that he has made twice with the same sentences in a short period of time, which concerns our club and we need to clarify the purpose of the unknown.

Our club did not have and won’t have any relationship with this person now or in the future, with this person whose name is mentioned side by side with terrorist organizations and whose behavior has been very well known by our community when he left our club.

Hereby, we would like to state once again that;

The doors of our club are closed forever to those like him and will remain so.”

The club’s statement comes shortly after Kanter revealed that other Turkish NBA players have no interaction with him when he tries to talk to them in games, “because they might be scared of the Turkish government”.

Kanter has expressed time and time again his opposition towards Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and has been labeled a terrorist in the country due to his support of exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen and his movement.

The Celtics big man reacted to Fenerbahce’s press release with the following tweet.
