Bahcesehir’s billionaire owner buys British club Plymouth Raiders

Enver Yucel is becoming the boss of BBL club Plymouth Raiders.

The Plymouth Raiders announced that Turkish billionaire Enver Yucel is acquiring a majority shareholding of the club. Yucel is also the owner of the Turkish BSL League club Bahcesehir.

Under Yucel’s ownership, Bahcesehir climbed from Turkey’s Second Division to the premiere category in 2018. The team finished ninth in the standings in its maiden appearance in BSL and is now also competing in the FIBA Europe Cup.

Per the Plymouth Raiders:

The Plymouth Raiders can confirm that owners, Richard Mollard and Ross Mackenzie, have agreed to sell a majority shareholding of the Club to MLA College part of the worldwide education powerhouse, BAU Global, in a move that has the potential to propel the club to the very pinnacle of British Basketball.

The BAU Global Education Network is comprised of K12 schools and higher education institutions around the world, welcoming students from across the globe to study at locations on four continents: North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

BAU Global universities offer nearly two hundred undergraduate, graduate and PhD programs in marine, architecture, art, business administration, communication, design, economics, education, engineering, health sciences, information technologies, law, medicine, and social sciences. BAU Global also has over 300 schools educating children from kindergarten to year 12 and are proud to develop global citizens who are committed to values that benefit the entire world.

The President of BAU Global, Mr Enver Yücel, has devoted all his life to education, providing educational services to students in many countries, especially in his native Turkey.

Mr Yücel received the award of the “Contribution to Global Education” in the UNCA Awards hosted by the United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki-moon in 2014, and became the first Turkish person to receive this award, which was presented to him by Ban Ki-moon himself.

Mr. Yücel was granted the title of ‘United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Associated Fellow’ by UNITAR, and has established the UNITAR affiliated CIFAL (Centre International de Formation des Autorités et Leaders) Istanbul as its chair to contribute to raising awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 and developing innovative solutions to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals throughout the world.

For his dedication to the empowerment of sustainable development throughout Turkey and the region, he was recently granted the position of Advisory Board Member of the ‘United Nations Institute for Training and Research Division for People.”
