Janis Gailitis’ team has done it again: after taking out Bayern Munich in the Semi-Finals of the BBL Pokal Top Four, Syntainics MBC was crowned champions.
In the final against Brose Bamberg, the 10th-placed team in the German standings won 97-87.
Excluding three second-tier German championships, this is only the second trophy in the small club’s history after the 2004 FIBA Europe Cup.
Michael Devoe was once again his team’s highest scorer with 26 points, while yesterday’s game-winning shooter Martin Breunig followed at 16 points. Austin Reaves’ brother, Spencer, added 14 points and 6 assists.
Brose Bamberg, coached this season by club veteran and former ratiopharm Ulm head coach Anton Gavel, couldn’t come out victorious despite Ronaldo Segu’s all-around performance of 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Thus far in the 2024-25 domestic season, Syntainics MBC won three out of their three matchups played against EuroLeague teams, two against Bayern and one against ALBA Berlin.
