Bayern Munich was the only team to defend its home court in the first day of the German League playoffs with a blowout win over Alba Berlin

Day 1 in the German League quarterfinals began with two upsets, the most notable of those being Bonn’s victory on the road over defending champs Brose Bamberg.

But Bayern Munich made sure it wouldn’t fell victim to any surprises, beating Alba Berlin 95 – 68 after a highly convincing performance.

Reggie Redding had 17 points, Nihad Djedovic 14 Maik Zirbes 13 while Vladimir Lucic and Bryce Taylor dropped 12 apiece.

Coach Djordjevic’s players practically finished the match in the second period where they outscored their opponents 31 – 8 (!) to take a 53 – 25 halftime lead.

Alba was simply unable to recover from such a deficit. Ismet Akrinar and Elmedin Kikanovic finished the match with 11 points each.

Earlier, Ludwigsburg defeated Ratiopharm Ulm 96 – 93 away from home behind Roderick Trice’s 25 points plus 4 assists.

Day 1 of the quarterfinals is completed tomorrow with the Game 1 between Medi Bayreuth and EWE Oldenburg.
