The 28 years old center used the dunk contest of the German’s league All-Star game in order to make a political statement.

Julian Gamble stuffed the ball over a person posing as the US president, raised his right fist and then leaned on one knee.

“His influence is negative. It’s not what I stand for as an American, a black man”, said the player according to the German newspaper “Welt”. “It’s difficult, but difficult times make you tough. As a family man, I must continue to spread love because love can overcome hatred”.

“These are tough times of racism for us,” said Gamble. “In Europe, people are not divided into black and white, here you are American, Belgian, German. In the US, people are classified according to their skin color, there is a systematic racism. ”

The basketball league considers the action as “freedom of expression,” a spokesman said. “It’s his personal decision to make a statement. We do not judge that”. For the record Gamble finished third in the dunk contest.
