Due to his religious beliefs Ibrahim Jaaber decided to leave Zalgiris Kaunas in the middle of Euroleague’s Top16. It’s a puzzling decision that has been the basketball talk all over Europe because of the unusual motives behind it

Ibrahim Jaaber felt always near to the God, while basketball was only a way for him to earn his living and that’s not something new, but it was proved with a really strange decision.

He had created a lot of years ago a blog about his faith and after his season in Milan (2010-11) he decided to have a sabbatical year to take part in a religious program in Mecca as he revealed in his interview to Eurohoops.net.

He came back to basketball on October signing a contract with Zalgiris, but four months later he left without any previous warning because his religion opposed to the advertisements of alcohol companies, which are sponsors of his team and also because he felt offended by the cheerleaders of Zalgiris most recent opponent, Lietkabelis. That’s the official story as it was published in Zalgiris website. It will be interesting to see, however, if the team will replace him, or if due to its financial woes his roster spot will remain void.

UPDATE: As Zalgiris Kaunas confirmed Jaaber after leaving the team decided to return all the money he earned since October.
