The General assembly of FIBA Europe concluded on Saturday in Wales and that are three really interesting points coming out from it. First of all, FIBA seems ready at least to discuss the existence of two Eurobaskets during the four year reformed World cup cycle.

As FIBA president Yvan Mainini (photo) said: “We will do our best to accommodate them as much as possible”. It’s not a secret that FIBA Europe wishes to continue organizing Eurobaskets every two years.

The president of FIBA Europe Olafur Rafnsson answered to the national federations that went to CAS, supporting a motion of censure against the current administration: “This process against our own basketball family was not celebrated. We would have preferred that the resources used by all parties in the dispute, were used instead to invest back in basketball”.

Also it was announced that FIBA Europe is negotiating with Euroleague and ULEB in order to creat a new landscape of club competitions in Europe. That means that only Euroleague and Eurocup will be continued next season, probably with more teams competing in the second class competition, and Eurochallenge will be abolished.
